National Book Award winners. . .

So glad I snagged a copy of Denis Johnson's Tree of Smoke at the ALA conference last summer. I've not heard one bad thing about this book.

Oy, I haven't read TREE OF SMOKE, but I was kind of rooting for THEN WE CAME TO THE END by Joshua Ferris. The same goes for Edwidge Danticat's BROTHER, I'M DYING. I guess it's a good thing I didn't be any money. = )

  2. I haven't read any of them. I do have the Johnson and the Berlinski (MFS kindly sent me a copy), so I was rooting for one of those two.

B R Myers wrote a hilarious review of Tree of Smoke in this month's Atlantic magazine. Not a flattering review. It's here:

Let us have a review as soon as you finish Smoke. I'd trust your opinion more than Myers' - though it was an amusing review.
